THE PRESENT LOOKS AT THE PAST
The company is young, in fact, it was created in 1983 but the experience had been acquired in previous years working in handmade period furniture. The name Faber was born in Bassano del Grappa, in the heart of the manufacturing traditions of this Venetian area. There were four partners at the head of the company: Renzo Guderzo, Luciano Scatola, Carlo and Giorgio Batocchio. "In seventeen years, market growth and expansion has been constant, and the brand has slowly been affirmed".
The creation of the product beings with a profound historic and cultural research, by consulting antique books, visiting museums and homes furnished with period furniture. In this preliminary phase, well-known expert co-operation is called on, like the Art Historian Alberto Vincenzo Vaccari, Professor of History of Styles and Antiques Expert. Regional Cabinet making is also called on extensively, like local craftsmanship that initially produced and then restored the furniture in Venetian noble villas, spread along the Brenta Riviera to the Asolo hills. Besides, specific requests from foreign markets are looked into, to study the features of the country where the furniture will go.
The furniture is then reproduced as faithfully as possible to the various styles from the past, however reinterpreted according to the needs of today's market, adapting the measurements and the possibilities of using it to today's needs.
Furthermore, Faber also makes made to measure items, and offers collections of fitted furniture, with modular elements that can easily fit into modern homes, "the most modern design is not seen in so much as a model to copy, but as a reference point to reach the most harmonious balance between classic and modern. We try to privilege the production of pieces with a high historic and cultural content".
Now, after consolidating its presence in both the home and foreign markets, the company aims at expanding to America and Russia, countries where, over recent years, the interest in artistic furniture has greatly grown. The guideline for all the Faber collections is the scrupulous working, respecting the various styles in choosing the woods, the thickness, the bronze decorations and the finishing patina, in some cases of centuries old inspiration. The most delicate work, like carving, inlaying, planing, which gives special emphasis to the wood grain, are all completely done by hand. The company, that works on an area of 7,000 square meters, with 80 employees, uses the work of small artisan workshops spread around the Veneto provinces and in Brianza, but there is also a concession to automation: in fact, to simplify and speed up production, numerically controlled machines have been introduced.
Furthermore, two initiatives give honour to this name: the attention to safeguard specialised labour, whereby the company collaborates with local schools offering equipment, systems and materials; and the active commitment with a foundation born in the Bassano area, which offers post-university short degree courses to guarantee a business exchange with certain emerging countries.
